We who have chosen to serve this country deserve better than this. This is a true incident on what happened to a Veteran in the Greater Seattle Area. Believe me if you aren’t more than a little pissed when done reading this then you need to realize the crap that the person went through is not OK.

This person who we will call ‘TJ’ served our country for 13+ years and got an honorable discharge for their service during combat. They were willing to go into areas of the world that were filled with violence and danger. When I ran into them, they were being escorted out of the VA Medical Center in Seattle. They had gone for medical treatment and even with their disability rating at 100% they were treated like crud.

They told me that the reason they had been in the hospital was due to the PTSD that they had from combat and the VA had given them a medication that they had a reaction to and then once it was treated told them that they were getting discharged from the hospital with no place to go and 3 Metro Bus Tickets. The person was in an unknown city to them and had no funds to get a place to stay.

I had them meet me at my home after telling my husband the issues and agreeing that they could stay the night. I got up this morning and for over an hour and a half got the run around from places that say they are to help the veterans. Different people would tell me that they couldn’t help due to the fact that they had been originally from a different city. Some were saying that they had to go and fill out a bunch of paperwork and then it would take several days to see about getting them help with a place to stay.

I called local churches and they kept saying due to the person’s veteran status they would have to go to the local VA medical center or Vet center to get help.

I only had one person out of about three dozen that I spoke with say thank you for serving our country. One freaken person!!! Most of them acted like it is a plague.

When I finally got the number to a person that worked for the State of Washington, they gave me the run around and then an attitude when I asked to talk to their supervisor. At this stage I had been on the phone for over an hour and about to blow a gasket.

Is this the reason that we serve? Is this the reason that this person made the sacrifices that they did? Is it to be treated like dirt?

I know that people are going to say that it was one person, guess what, it happens to me almost every time that I go to the hospital. They have treated me like a medication test subject, they had treated me like I am no good when I was willing to serve this country.

This needs to stop! People who are willing to serve and give all should get the respect and treatment that they need for the problems that come from their service.

Wake up people! We need to have someone who is willing to care about others. I am tired of seeing people get hurt due to caring!
