Who is Imhotep?

Who is Imhotep? Is he the person from the movies The Mummy? Was he really the keeper of the dead?

Sorry but the movies got it very wrong.

Imhotep did live but it was during the 27th century BCE. The Pharaoh was Djoser who was the second ruler of Egypt’s third dynasty. He was later worshipped as the god of medicine in both Egypt and in Greece. He was also an architect and a statesman.

One of the things that he was known to have been the architect of the step pyramid, built the necropolis of Saqqarah in the city of Memphis.

With Imhotep’s high standing in Djoser’s court is known by an inscription with his name on a statue. There are several titles on the statue including chief of the sculptors and chief of the seers. While there is no contemporary account that refers to Imhotep as a…
