Devil’s Tower… Myths

Welcome to the Wild World of Mythology

We have all seen the images of it, Devil’s Tower in Crook County, Wyoming. My question is what are the myths that are behind it? What did the Native American’s see in it?  I have honestly wondered why it was given the name that it was. The tower is beautiful no matter what you think.

There are several legends that the Native American’s have depending on the tribe. One that I found that was interesting was the one of the seven sisters. It is from Kiowa tribe. The legend goes that the seven sisters were being chased by a bear and ran to the Northeastern corner of Wyoming. The tower was the stump that they jumped onto and were taken up into the heavens where they became the stars of the Big Dipper. ( http://www.sylvanrocks.com/devils_tower_climbing/legends_history )
