What to believe in … Fake News or Real News?

When you listen to the news, how much do you believe? When you go to Twitter and see the President of the United States saying that some of the news is ‘fake news’ and you should wonder is it really happening? When you read the paper, do you honestly believe it or ask questions?

I don’t have cable TV so I must watch news clips from different channels on line. I often will go outside the US to get more information before I make my opinion and I hear some things that worry me as of late. I find that the past is starting to repeat itself. That is what worries me. I will cite the sources that I use so you can make your own conclusions.

First one that I have is from Politifact website: “DONALD TRUMP: “At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is ‘no reason to be alarmed!’ “— PolitiFact National on Sunday, June 4th, 2017 1 This one bothers me so much because London has been there for the US when we suffered from 9-11. London survived ‘The Blitz’ bombing from Nazi Germany! They have learned that for terrorist to win, they must be able to destroy the population and make them live in fear.
{The image is of London after the Blitz bombing} The fact is that he should have been more supportive of London and less rude.

The second one is also from Politifact website: “DONALD TRUMP: “No administration has accomplished more in the first 90 days.”— PolitiFact National on Monday, April 24th, 2017 1 This is a very big false statement. The fact is that President Franklin D. Roosevelt made the most changes in his first 100 days in office. When he took office, the country was in the Great Depression and he was able to submit 15 separate major bills to the US congress and all were passed. He issued over 90 executive orders and was able to put a halt on the collapse of the banks.2 No one has come close to doing what he did during the first 100 days.

The third one shows just how stuck on himself Trump is. It is from the site Marie Claire in the UK. “”Any negative polls are fake news, just like the CNN, ABC, NBC polls in the election. Sorry, people want border security and extreme vetting.” 3 This is from the person who has chosen to fire people and not check the backgrounds of other. If we stay on the same site we find “I will build a great wall – and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me – and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great, great wall on our southern border, and I will make Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words.” Oh for goodness sake. “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best. They’re not sending you, they’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bring crime. They’re rapists… And some, I assume, are good people.” Just another casually racial slur, then… “Our great African-American President hasn’t exactly had a positive impact on the thugs who are so happily and openly destroying Baltimore.” Don’t worry, his racist outbursts aren’t just directed at Mexico.

First off: Walls don’t work. They seal people in and not help with trade and global interactions. We have tried to do the isolationism before and it failed in a big way.

Second off: The people of Mexico have been here a lot longer than the Trump family and many have done things that his family has chosen not to. There are the people of the Mesoamerican area that created civilizations of the Maya, the Aztec, the Hopi and others. His statements need to have a price to pay and we are paying it now.
